HOW TO MAKE POPCORN IN INSTANT POT.
I was watching a movie with my family. And of course we had popcorn, the one in the bag that you have to microwave. Who likes that microwaveable popcorn? With all the additives and preservatives. So I started to wonder if I can make it in my Instant Pot. So I did some research.
CAN YOU MAKE POPCORN IN INSTANT POT?
Yes you can make popcorn in Instant Pot. And it turned out better then I thought. Almost no wasted kernels or burned popcorn. Unlike microwaved one.
WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE POPCORN IN INSTANT POT?
All you need is:
Instant Pot (or any other pressure cooker)
Instant pot lid. You can use any lid that you have. If you don’t have a lid don’t worry, just cover it with foil.
2 tbsp. Oil (I like to use 1 tbsp. coconut oil refined flavorless and 1 tbsp. salted butter)
Your favorite seasonings.
BEST WAY TO FLAVOR POPCORN
You can add salt straight to the pot. When corn pops it’ll be salted. You can add flavored oil to the pot. Just make sure to compensate so you have 2 tbsp of oil in the pot. After popcorn done popping you can melt some tasty butter or virgin coconut oils and mix it in to the popcorn. You can also add powdered sugar, BBQ seasoning, garlic salt, ranch mix and cinnamon sugar.
IS IT HEALTHY TO MAKE POPCORN IN INSTANT POT?
It is probably most healthiest way of making popcorn, because you know what goes in to it. There is nochemical additives and preservatives. You can use natural flavorings to flavor your popcorn.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR POPCORN TO COOK IN INSTANT POT?
It takes about 5-7 minutes on HIGH SAUTÉ function.
CAN I USE REGULAR INSTANT POT LID?
Yes you can use regular lid. Just make sure you don’t pressurize the pot. Just leave the valve set to VENT. Check after 5 minutes or so to make sure that the corn is still popping and not burning. But I wouldn’t advise using pressure lid for popcorn because you can’t hear it nor see it.
How To Make Popcorn In Instant Pot
Equipment
- Pressure Cooker (Instant Pot)
- Spatula
- Mixing Bowl
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Popcorn kernels
- 2 Tbsp Coconut oil refined If using butter, then use only 1 Tbsp
- 1 Tbsp Butter Optional
- Your favorite seasonings You can use salt and pepper, rache seasoning, hot sauce or bbq seasonings.
Instructions
- Turn on Instant Pot and Press SAUTE button on HIGH
- When screen reads HIGH and pressure cooker beeps. Add 2 tbsp of refined coconut oil, or you can also add butter. Just add 1 tbsp oil and 1 tbsp butter. At this point you can add salt or flavored oil. I wouldn't add spices at this time to avoid burning.
- When oli melts, add corn kernels and stir until all kernes coated with oil. Make sure that kernels are all in single layer so they start to heat up evenly and start to pop at the same time.
- Cove the pot with the lid. Don't worry, if you don't have a lid just cover it with foil and poke few holes with toothpick.
- In about 2 minutes corn will start to pop
- When popping slows down, wait about one minute and turn off the pot and remove the liner from the pot using towel or something because it could be hot. The whole process should take about 5-6 minutes. At this time you can add flavorings or butter and salt. Close it with the lid again and hold the liner and lid together and carefully shake everything so all the popcorn is covered with the butter and flavorings.
